Canon MP170 is a budget printer offered to the customers which want an excellent ink jet printer within their own budget reach. Pixma MP170 ink cartridges have a lot of new features that were not offered earlier in ink jet printers of this price range. First of all it is an all-in-one printer which makes it an ideal printer for anyone wanting everything in one printer on the working desk. Pixma MP170 has also been upgraded in terms of the looks as the aesthetics have been thoroughly worked on. Pixma MP170 has a silver white external casing with a black upfront control panel that makes it an easy to use printer. The LCD control panel not only has modified looks but it also has a bigger panel to see things more clearly with a 16 character support. The panel still has a serious lacking in terms of usability as you will not be able to see the printing status of the documents that have been printed through the memory card which can make life difficult while printing using a memory card.
LCD control panel however has limited functionality as it does not show the status of the documents printed through the memory card. Buttons made on the panel are also easy to use as each button has clear marking for the purpose it will be used. Pixma MP170 also supports the PictBridge feature as many other ink jet printers falling in the similar price range do not have this support for the modern digital cameras.

The paper input of the Pixma MP170 is only limited to a tray on the back of the printer as the only way to input papers or documents for printing. There is a very easy to use flat bed scanner built in the Pixma MP170 where you can scan all types of photographs and documents.
Canon Pixma MP170 relies on two MP170 ink cartridges. It has one black MP170 printer cartridge and one tri-color MP170 ink cartridge. The printer has reasonably good quality photo prints and excellent quality black text printing. With all these features hosted Canon MP170 still has excellent printing speed for black document printing and reasonable speed for coloured photo printing. Canon has tried to focus improving the cost per print with these Canon ink cartridges.
Some features of the Pixma MP170 are pretty basic while there are many upgraded features available in Canon MP170 as well. With the amount of money you are paying for Canon MP170, it is pure value for delivered. For those of you who want more from a Canon inkjet printer, they should rather look for a more costly model.
