Canon Pixma MP500 has been moved in design from the cubical conservative styled inkjet printer to a more orthodox inkjet printer with semi circular front. Canon Pixma MP500 uses five Canon MP500 ink cartridges which the lower end MP400 models did not use.
The LCD of the control panel along with the control panel itself has moved to the center for the Pixma MP500. There are three kinds of buttons on a Pixma MP500; buttons for copying, buttons for scanning and buttons for printing. Detailed menus provided on the Pixma MP500 ensure easy access to all the different functions of the Pixma MP500. Canon Pixma MP500 has built in memory card slots to slide in many different types of media cards like Memory Stick Duo Pro, MiniSD cards, XD picture cards, and other famous types of media cards. Feature rich Pixma MP500 can easily operated even without the involvement of a PC. There are many friendly software packages accompanying Canon Pixma MP500 for advanced customization and use. Canon Pixma MP500 also has a PictBridge port to connect it to a PictBridge supported digital camera for taking direct photos. Pixma MP500 however does lack fax which would have completed the otherwise complete Pixma MP500 inkjet printer. Canon Pixma MP500 uses five Canon MP500 ink cartridges which were missing in many of the earlier Pixma MP400 series printers.

Pixma MP500 is an excellent printer but its scanner has a mediocre performance which could have been tweaked further to match the other features offered by Pixma MP500. But still Canon MP500 is a gem for photo enthusiasts and home printer users alike. But with the latest Canon ink cartridges used in Canon MP500 it is an outstanding Canon inkjet printer with a lot to offer to its users.
